[edit] Adjusting Boiler Temperature

  • Adjusting the temperature of the La Spaziale New EK machine involves adjusting the pressurestat. This is a blue/grey box to the right of the machine, as you look at the side with the groups and controls. Please be aware that most brass connections will be very hot, and if the machine is not unplugged most wires will be live, so exercise extreme caution.

[edit] Step 1

  • Bring the machine upto heat and then un-plug it at the mains.

[edit] Step 2

  • Remove the cup warming plates on top of the machine by sliding them towards the front of the machine, and then pulling them upwards from the back.

[edit] Step 3

  • Locate the blue/grey box to the right of the boiler which has a screw and a yellow circle of plastic on top of it.

[edit] Step 4

  • Ignore the visible screw and remove the yellow plastic cover to expose another screw. To adjust the boiler pressure, and thus the boiler temperature, turn this screw clockwise to increase pressure and anti-clockwise to reduce it. You are not looking to turn it more than 1/4 of a turn at a time.

[edit] Step 5

To test the pressure, plug the machine back in to check the temperature it will rise upto. You are looking for an approximate pressure of 1 bar.

[edit] Adjusting Pump pressure

  • Adjusting the pump pressure will affect the pressure at the group, as shown in the needle on the left of the pressure gauge. This is necessary if either the pressure gauge is show a low reading, or you are running the machine from bottled water and not line pressure. Once again, this involves very hot metal and live electricity, so exercise real caution.

[edit] Step 1

  • remove the cup warming plates on top of the machine, and then un-screw the screws at the top of the panel on the left. Pull the top of the plate out towards you, and then push down and pull the bottom out to remove.

[edit] Step 2

  • Locate the pump, it is a brass cone shaped device attached to a large silver motor. There should be a screw facing you at the end of the small brass cone.

[edit] Step 3

  • Un-tighten the lock-nut at the end of this screw by turning anti-clockwise with a spanner and then adjust the pressure by turning the screw minute amounts, clockwise to increase and anti-clockwise to decrease.

[edit] Step 4

  • Test the pressure by plugging the machine back in, and activating the group with the cold water activated or the pipe in a bottle of water, the brewing pressure should be approximately 8-10 bars pressure.

[edit] Step 5

  • Tighten the locking nut and replace the side panels.

[edit] End Note

please feel free to adjust this article, it is merely a brief description of a couple of techniques I was talked through by JonS and Kingseven.
